It seems inevitable that with such a free spirited creative image, dogstar attracts a very artistic clientele. However, we are constantly amazed by the support and following we have from local artists, musicians and designers. Queensland musician, Alesa Lajanan can be spotted at her gigs or even on album covers proudly sporting dogstar. Having released her latest commercial album with ABC Classics, Alesa is a guitarist, singer & composer of remarkable talent. She blends intricate guitar skills with soaring vocals, enchanting audiences with her original world music inspired compositions & the traditional music of Scotland & Ireland.

To continue our support of local artists, dogstar has some of Alesa cd’s available to give away in our Brisbane City, Valley and Southbank stores. Details available in store.

terika

Jazz saxophonist, River Petien works closely with dogstar, often collaborating to create beautiful music for our fashion parades. His music helps us create an atmosphere which complements our pieces and enhances the mood of each collection. River has quite a reputation within the Australian music scene, performing, recording and touring with some of the country’s best jazz, funk, electro, hip hop and world acts including: resin dogs, soma rasa, taxi, elixir, neighbourhood groove collective, rivernova, afro dizzy act and many others. We are lucky that he manages squeeze us in between his latest project Terika.

Terika, which can be described as world music with an electronic edge, is the soundtrack to our brisbane stores.  The band achieves the seemingly impossible by uniting musical styles which are worlds and centuries apart. Combing Tibetan traditional with 19 century classical cello, European style jazz saxophone and deep electronica, Terika creates a unique sound that is truly genuine and heart felt.

music to our ears

Our creative force behind dogstar, Masayo, listens to music for the melody. Her first language is Japanese and understanding the lyrics of english songs can be tricky. For her, music evokes emotion through its sound rather than through its words.

Music is  an universal language we all relate to. People are moved and influenced by it in many ways. We breath music, the sounds inspire, provoke thoughts; it rouses emotions, settles nerves, relates to feelings felt by many. We laugh, we cry, we dance, we reflect, we create, we are stirred by its feeling. Nick Cave’s dark and brooding sounds and Vast’s industrial and drum-driven, heavy bass were a couple of the influences behind dogstar’s winter 09 collection.

Like music, dogstar appeals to and is enjoyed by a broad range of people, of all shapes, sizes and ages. We like everyone to be able to speak its creative language.
