At dogstar South Brisbane studio, we have been so busy preparing to move.
Next week will be our last week at the South Brisbane studio. It has not been so long since our last move, but we found the perfect place for us.
I call this place "Kintsugi-do". I had this name and idea in my mind for nearly 10 years but did not find the right place until now.
Kintsugi is a Japanese traditional technique being used in pottery for many years, where broken pottery pieces are out back together with urushi lacquer and create a new born beauty with imperfection, expressing the transient nature of existence.
Here at dogstar, ‘Kintsugi-do’ will be a beautiful place where we meet, connect and create something together just like "Kintsugi".
In our life, things often fall into place at the perfect time naturally when we wait. My 20 year old daughter has been interested in second hand clothing. She sells her old clothes and buys second hand clothes through op shops and online. Do any of your children do the same?

The other day my daughter showed me what she had purchased online. It was our old dogstar item from the "Laika" collection. Those pieces must be from more than 10 years ago. I was quite excited to see those old dogstar clothes now handed down. She is excited to find the old dogstar and Laika pieces second hand and styles them in her unique way.
She even asked me if $100 was a reasonable price to pay for a little top! What am I supposed to say to her? I am not sure if the top values $100? I asked her if the price can be negotiable. But nonetheless, the pictures looked in good condition even after 10 years of wear!
My daughter loves this little apron with a beautiful hand printed work created by Paola Milani from 12 years ago, a good friend of mine. I remember that I used to wear lots of little aprons when I was young. Now my daughter wears them and she loves the look. She then told me that she wants to learn how to sew clothes, so that she can upcycle old clothes too. I am so excited to show her how to mend/upcycle old clothes.
More and more of my customers now visit dogstar with their daughters. I really enjoy seeing a new generation visiting us and connecting with us. At our new studio "Kintsugi-do", I think we will create something new with old things together. Where we connect and pass our knowledge and experiences to the next generation.

How many of you would like to join us and do a mending/upcycling workshop with me at "Kintsugi-do"?
